BOOK REVIEW | Sir Lilypad

Sir Lilypad - a tall tale of a small frog by Anna Kemp and Sara Ogilvie.

This is a rhyming tale about a small speckled frog with big dreams of being a knight in shining armour.

He searches the land (and all the castle towers) for a Princess in need of rescuing so that he could kiss her and turn into a handsome Prince.

The only Princess he finds is really NOT in need of rescuing, she's quite capable of looking after herself.

This is a hilarious tale, and it came at exactly the right time - we started talking about frogs one day.  So we read this story, sang some froggy songs and went on a walk to the pond to see if we could see some frogs (we didn't).

One of my 5 speckled frogs was Sir Lilypad for the day.

We sang "5 little speckled frogs" and bounced them up and down on the blue lycra pond, as we all held on to a corner of the fabric.

And I really liked the end papers...

[I was sent a copy of Sir Lilypad by the publishers Simon and Schuster]
