STORY CAFE ~ Cock-a-doodle-doo! Farmyard Hullabaloo

Story Cafe is about inspiring a love of books and stories within families and early years settings.

We talk to families about how children's communication and language skills develop, using the pyramid model. And we stress that chatting, singing and playing while going about everyday activities, al;ong with sharing stories and books, will give babies and toddlers a great start.  Find out more here - https://www.justonenorfolk.nhs.uk/speech-language/talk-play/.

There are so many great picture books to share alongside this session's book Cock-a-doodle-doo Farmyard Hullabaloo by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz, published by Hachette (https://www.booktrust.org.uk/book/c/cock-a-doodle-doo-farmyard-hullabaloo/).  Some examples below -

The children loved waiting for the puppets to come out of the bag as we read the story.  And they were very excited to find out which animals were hiding in the little box, as we sing " Who's in the box?".

We set up lots of invitations to play, this one with little wooden jenga bricks, tweezers (I think they are teabag squeezers!), and the big vehicles.

Puppets  encourage talk, and making the animals' noises.

Farm animals and books with the names of the animals encourage developing vocabulary and adding new words to children's repertoire.

Some old packaging, different small world people, animals and vehicles.

A lovely game of making animal noises to share.

Pictures of the animals with scissors and pieces of card encourage talk and retelling of the story.

Clipboards and pencils inspired A to talk to all of the grownups at Story Cafe and ask them what they would like from her cafe.

We finished off with another short story, and songs like Old MacDonald had a farm and Who's in the box?

All the children chose a picture book to take home and a sticker.
