Books About | HALLOWEEN

It's THAT time of year again.  All the shops are full of pumpkins, witches outfits, and an amazing array of halloween decorations that seems to get more and more every year.  So I'm keeping it simple - lets look at some quality children's picture books to share with the little ones...

We love...

  • Two little witches by Harriet Ziefert & Simms Taback - a simple counting story about a little gang of trick-or-treaters on Halloween night...

  • Meg and Mog by Jan Pienkowski - lovely simple illustrations, plenty to talk about on the pages and a great short story for little ones

  • Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson - we LOVE this one - beautiful illustrations by Axel Scheffler and wonderful rhyming text.  "The witch had a cat and a very tall hat, and long ginger hair which she wore in a plait..."

  • Funnybones by Janet and Allan Ahlberg - skeletons who just want to frighten someone but aren't very good at it.

  • Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper - and the sequels "A Pipkin of Pepper" and "Delicious" - brilliant, beautiful illustrations and a lovely story about Cat, Squirrel and Duck and their adventures in cooking together.

  • A dark, dark tale by Ruth Brown - anticipation building!  Just what IS hiding in the dark, dark box in the dark, dark house?

  • Winnie the Witch by Valerie Thomas - illustrated by Korky Paul, quirky stories about Winnie and her cat Wilbur who does some amazing expressions at Winnie's antics and mistakes.
