Books About ... Easter

Easter is coming...

So here are some story ideas which fit perfectly with this time of year.  I'm going with the eggs, bunnies and chickens theme here.  I know it's not all about chocolate, but it is the time of year when we think about things growing, baby birds hatching and our surroundings warming up a bit (hopefully).  Some of these are story books I've owned for years and read to my own children and others are new ones we've discovered since.

1. Meg's Eggs by Helen Nicholl and Jan Pienkowski - what will be inside the giant eggs that Meg accidentally conjures up?

2. Daisy and the Egg by Jane Simmons - Daisy's baby brother is hatching out of his egg.

3. Little Rabbit Foo Foo by Michael Rosen and Arthur Robins - a funny story about a not-so well-behaved bunny rabbit and a good fairy who tries to put him straight

4. Rosie's Walk by Pat Hutchins - Rosie the hen in a battle to outwit the fox - perfect for babies and toddlers, a few words and lovely pictures to talk about.

5. Peppa's Easter Egg Hunt - Grandpa Pig's easter egg hunt for the little ones...

6. Ivor the Engine - The Dragon by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin - Jones the Steam and Ivor find a mysterious object on Smoke Hill.  But what does it turn out to be?  A classic picture book from my childhood!

7. Happy Easter Maisie by Lucy Cousins - Maisy collects some eggs and makes her own Easter egg hunt.

8. Handa's Hen by Eileen Browne - Handa's search for her Grandma's hen, Mondi...

9. Guess how much I love you by Sam McBratney and Anita Jeram - lovely bunny rabbit tale about Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare.

10. Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose by Julia Donaldson and Nick Sharratt - funny tale about the animal's mealtime, with Nick Sharratt's brilliant illustrations and Julia Donaldson's amazing rhyming.

11. Spot's First Easter by Eric Hill - lift the flaps and help Spot find the Easter eggs.

The children's favourite this week?  Meg's Eggs by Helen Nicholl and Jan Pienkowski.  They had great fun guessing what might be in the eggs that Meg conjured up with her magic spell.  "Chocolate!" said M, "Chicken's" said L.  What do you think...

I hope you enjoy some stories this Easter holiday...
