The Pigeon has so many wonderful expressions and funny faces, and it's such a simple character, very cleverly done. There are a whole selection of pigeon books to choose from but we chose the puppy one for today.
The children played with some pigeon felt toys that I had made and some puppies and had a chance to look at some pigeon books while we waited for everyone to arrive.
We read the story to all the children and their families. As we read the story we talked about the pigeon and how he was feeling, what he really wanted and whether he had really thought about what he really wanted! The children loved the pigeon's funny faces and laughed at the pictures.
Then the children all went off the find some stuff to make something to take home based on the story. We had lots of pigeons made from blue card and toilet roll tubes. Some of them even had wings!!
At the end children went home with a certificate and a family challenge, and we read another Mo Willems story together "The Pigeon finds a hotdog". We loved reading the pigeon stories together - why now borrow one from your local library and try it out - you'll become a "pigeon - lovin' human"!!
