Another Story Cafe for preschool families and children - based around the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle:
We read the story with the children joining in , taking the part of all the food the caterpillar ate. I use a homemade story sack with props collected from charity shops, and a cocoon I made myself from felt:
Then the children made Very Hungry Caterpillar and butterfly puppets, or used the own creativity and the open-ended resources available to make some props inspired by the story like I's tissue paper caterpillar above! Some children wanted to colour in a caterpillar picture and others made their own puppet designs:
We all had some caterpillar food for a snack - strawberries because the Very Hungry Caterpillar loves them, and at the end we read the story again with the children joining in with the props they had made.
If you're inspired by the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar, why not try this really easy make for a caterpillar food munching game - I found a link on Pinterest and made my own. You can read the story and the children can post the food in his mouth at the appropriate moment! You can go to the original post for this make, if you click here.

Well, I'm off to make a cup of tea now!
